B. integrifolia subsp. integrifolia occurs typically on consolidated sand dunes close to the coast and along tidal inlets B. integrifolia subsp. compar occurs in a wide range of habitats from coastal dunes to montane forest, in SEQ in open forest in sand or loam, sometimes in seasonally swampy ground. Some populations in SEQ are intermediate between the two subspp.
